Western Bulk has been a customer since 2014, and has recently made several investments in technology to strengthen the business. Western Bulk has 120 employees globally, of which 60 are based at its head office in Oslo. The company had revenues of NOK 8.6 billion in 2018, and transported a total of 37.6 million tonnes of dry bulk in the same year with its fleet of 151 ships on behalf of more than 300 cargo customers across the world!
‘The increasing rate of change in terms of technological development is leading to new tools, new opportunities and new challenges. Although shipping is already very competitive in terms of cost, technology will further challenge the industry. By investing in technology and working with strong partners like Visolit, we are developing systems and tools that will boost our competitive advantage,’ says Western Bulk’s CEO, Hans Aasnæs.
Visolit’s customer service team is available 24/7, which is one of Western Bulk’s key priorities. Its ships never stop and its employees are dependent on getting rapid assistance from a highly skilled customer service team.
‘Western Bulk needed the flexibility to be able to move quicker than others. This means they do not want to be tied to one specific cloud services provider or platform - with Visolit they get this flexibility,’ says Mjøs.
Visolit now delivers cloud services in Azure, in addition to a range of services in cloud optimisation, backup, networks, certificates and customer service on a 24/7 basis. Going forward, Visolit’s consultancy and advice services will also be important.
The parties will drop traditional operations meetings and their partnership will be more focused on finding improvements in future. At upcoming technology and improvement meetings, they will focus on new products, innovations and what the parties can change to get better.
‘We have a strong belief in combining our strong shipping experience and commercial flair with the potential to add value that is offered by new technology. This is based on selecting strategic partners, which we have in the shape of Visolit,’ Aasnæs explains.
